FAQ
What does the Secure Erase function do? When should I use this function?
Secure Erase is a type of format also known as "deep format" or "low-level format". It sets the storage media to zero. A standard formatting will only delete the index of the older data, while Secure Erase deletes everything that has to do with the old data, and gives the media its initial "out of the box" performance back.
Secure erasing completely wipes the data from the storage media, making it unrecoverable. So, if you have valuable or essential data on the media, you should back it up to another storage media (e.g., your computer) to prevent permanent data loss. Once the data is safely backed up, you can proceed with Secure Erase.
We recommend using Secure Erase regularly (especially after the card's storage has been full 3-5 times) to regain the card's initial "out-of the box" performance. You can also use this feature if you want your confidential and sensitive data to be entirely and irrecoverably wiped from the storage media — this is particularly important when you plan to dispose of or sell the storage media or if you want to reuse it for another purpose.
