What is the little switch on the side of my SD memory card for?

The switch on the side of your SD memory cards is called the Write-Protect-Switch. It's there to protect your work from accidentally deleting or overwriting it. If you move the little switch to the "lock" position, the function is activated and protects your card against unintended file modification and deletion and writing unwanted data files to your card.
