What is the purpose of formatting my storage media?

If your storage media is new and "out of the box", it is essential to format it first. You can do this by inserting the storage media into the camera/device. Formatting creates a new file system; the structure of that file system depends on the camera/device in use. Formatting allows the camera/device to work optimally with your storage media.

If you want to start a new production project or switch to a new camera/device model, we recommend formatting your storage media in the camera/device. This resets the filing system, creates new space for shooting, and also ensures optimal performance.

Always back up important data before formatting your storage media.
